Mazatlán, Mexico

Dec. 28

Life at Rock Island anchorage has been very calm. Smooth with very little swell. 1-2 sailboats around us at any given time.

It’s the start of Max and Brendas vacation with no noise or distractions around! Kind of nice. It’s a paradise.

Spent our day on board the Le Patriote. I was able to zip in and back from the beach with the kayak. This is definitely a cruisers stop over anchorage for us.

Dec. 29

A dream day spent alone hiking and jogging on shore. Found a cool mountain to climb with wild mountain goats scrambling there way up the hills and vultures soaring above the top overlooking the bay. Grabbed a 6 pack and watched the sunset on the beach.

Dec. 30

03:50am

It takes time to join the rhythm of the sea and it takes about the same amount of time to feel comfortable on land. This is what they call land sickness I suppose?

I keep waking up very early for watch! I’ll spend the morning with a warm cup of coffee on deck to see the sunrise. Pack my bags and have a nice goodbye breakfast with Max and Brenda. Special.

After a dingy ride to an island, a walk across the island, water taxi to the nearest town, shuttle to the city, taxi to the airport, and finally a cerveza at the airport. Board flight from Mexico to Calgary.

The magnitude of each passage always hits me when I’m traveling home. Only then do memories of hanging off the rails and trimming sails at midnight start to resonate.

I’ll make it home and save a few dollars for the next sail adventure. For this one has come full circle and landed me safely at home in the north. At home in the land of the snow.

♥️🥰

I'd close my eyes
It was all so clear
It was all right then
It was all right here
